Inspired by Indigo: The Story Behind the RM Blue Buri Bead Bracelet

The second solo album of this era was made for music lovers because there's something here for everyone, regardless of your K-pop fan status or understanding of the Korean language. Since the day the album dropped, I have felt a near-primal need to listen to it at least once, and usually multiple times, each day.

The title track was my first love, and there will be at least one piece in the shop dedicated to it because the music video and song touched me in a way few others have in my lifetime. One by one, three other songs found their way into my heart and mind as I slowly discovered the qualities that turned each from a grain of sand into a pearl.

Like the experiences that shaped his first two decades of life, the blue Buri beads featured in this bracelet have been on a journey. They begin life in the Philippines as nuts from the Buri palm tree. Once they fall from the branches, the seeds are handcrafted by local artisans, transforming an abundant natural resource into something beautiful while providing an economic benefit to their communities.

As a result, each bead is unique and perfectly imperfect. In Filipino culture, any object made from the Buri palm symbolizes rebirth, a fitting nod to this album as RM enters his thirties and the adventures that await. I used Aurora Borealis glass seed beads to contrast with the blue and represent how each song on the album adds a different texture to the listening experience. You'll notice they appear to change color depending on the angle from which you view them.
